Harmony in the Family
Spring Forest Qigong
We Feel Each Other’s Energy
Have you ever walked into a room and immediately sensed that something wasn’t quite right?
No one had to tell you.
You could simply feel it.
Or perhaps you’ve been around someone whose happiness was so contagious that you found yourself smiling, too.
The energy we carry within ourselves can influence the atmosphere around us—especially with the people we are closest to.
Think about a small child who is upset. You make a silly face, smile, laugh, or give them a loving hug. Sometimes, within moments, their whole mood begins to change.
We have a beautiful ability to influence one another through our presence, our emotions, our words, our intentions, and our love.
This is especially powerful within a family.
When One Person Hurts, the Family Feels It
Families move through many seasons together.
There are joyful times—births, marriages, celebrations, accomplishments, vacations, and simple everyday moments of connection.
There are also difficult times.
Illness.
Loss.
Divorce.
Financial challenges.
Job changes.
Children struggling.
Parents aging.
Relationships changing.
Distance separating people we love.
When one family member is going through something difficult, it often affects everyone around them.
One person may become a caregiver. Someone else may feel worried or helpless. Another person may take on additional responsibilities. Old disagreements may become more difficult when everyone is under stress.
Just as different parts of the body work together as one system, a family is made up of many individuals who are deeply connected.
When one person’s energy changes, the rhythm of the entire family can change.
But this also gives us a beautiful opportunity:
If disharmony can ripple through a family, so can peace.
You Don’t Have to Change Everyone Else
When there is conflict in a family, it’s natural to focus on what we wish someone else would change.
If only they would listen.
If only they would understand.
If only they would stop doing that.
If only they would forgive me.
But in Spring Forest Qigong, we begin somewhere much closer:
We begin with ourselves.
You don’t have to wait for everyone in your family to practice Qigong.
You don’t have to convince anyone to think differently.
You don’t even need them to be in the same home—or the same city.
You can begin by creating greater balance, peace, love, kindness, and forgiveness within yourself.
When you become calmer, you may respond differently.
When you release some of your anger, conversations may begin to feel different.
When you approach someone with love instead of judgment, they may feel that difference.
One person choosing harmony can begin to change the music.
The Five Elements and Our Emotional Harmony
In Spring Forest Qigong, we work with the Five Elements and their relationship to the body’s energy systems and emotions.
Master Chunyi Lin teaches that different emotions are connected with different organ energy systems.
For example, we associate:
Liver energy with anger and happiness.
Heart energy with extreme emotions and joy.
Spleen and stomach energy with worry and peace.
Lung energy with sadness and contentment.
Kidney energy with fear and gratitude.
The goal isn’t to tell ourselves that we should never feel angry, afraid, worried, or sad.
These emotions are part of being human.
Instead, Qigong gives us tools to work with our energy and gently help ourselves return to greater balance.
Rather than fighting anger, we can cultivate happiness.
Rather than becoming trapped in worry, we can cultivate peace.
Rather than holding onto sadness, we can invite contentment.
Rather than allowing fear to control us, we can cultivate gratitude.
And when we change the energy within ourselves, we may begin to change what we bring into our relationships.
Bring Your Practice Into Your Family
Master Lin’s Five Element Healing Movements are a beautiful way to work with the body’s different energy systems while cultivating positive emotions.
But creating family harmony doesn’t have to be complicated.
It can begin with something very small.
Before responding during a disagreement, take one slow breath.
When you feel frustrated with someone you love, place your hands over your heart and remember something you appreciate about them.
When the house feels chaotic, spend five minutes practicing Qigong.
When someone is struggling, visualize them surrounded by beautiful light instead of focusing only on their problem.
And when you notice yourself carrying the stress or emotions of the people around you, return your attention to your Lower Dantian and come back to your center.
You are not trying to control anyone else’s energy.
You are taking responsibility for the energy you bring into the relationship.
That is something you can change.
Sometimes Harmony Begins with Forgiveness
There may be times when restoring harmony isn’t easy.
Families can carry hurts for months, years, and sometimes generations.
Someone may have said something that was difficult to forget.
Trust may have been broken.
You may love someone deeply while still feeling hurt, disappointed, or angry with them.
Forgiveness does not mean pretending something didn’t happen or accepting behavior that continues to cause harm.
Sometimes forgiveness begins much more simply.
It begins with the intention that you no longer want pain to have so much power over your heart.
You might not be ready to forgive everything today.
That’s okay.
Take one small step.
Bring your attention to your heart.
Breathe.
Smile gently.
Think of the person or situation and silently say:
I am willing to begin releasing what I no longer need to carry.
You don’t have to force anything.
Just create the intention.
Then practice.
Tomorrow, do it again.
Little by little, energy can transform.
Love Is the Greatest Healing Power
Spring Forest Qigong is rooted in love, kindness, forgiveness, and compassion.
Master Lin reminds us again and again that love is the greatest healing power.
And perhaps nowhere is that love more meaningful—or sometimes more challenging—than within our families.
Family harmony doesn’t mean there will never be disagreements.
It doesn’t mean everyone will make the choices we want them to make.
And it certainly doesn’t mean everyone has to be perfect.
Harmony is remembering the love underneath all those different notes.
It is listening a little more deeply.
Speaking a little more kindly.
Forgiving a little more freely.
And becoming a source of peaceful, loving energy for the people around you.
Start with yourself.
Then allow that energy to ripple outward.
Because sometimes it only takes one person choosing a different note to begin changing the entire song.

Amplify Loving Energy for Your Family
Your Qigong practice is one way to intentionally cultivate harmony. You can also bring that intention into the environment around you.
Our Feng Shui Harmony Crystal Balls, energized by Master Chunyi Lin, can be used as part of your intention to amplify positive energy in your home and support the loving intentions you hold for individual family members.
And the person you want to support doesn’t have to live with you.
Perhaps you have an adult child living across the country, a parent or grandparent you don’t get to see as often as you’d like, a sibling living in another state, or someone you love who is going through a difficult season.
You can choose a Crystal Ball with that person in your heart and create an intention for the energy you would like to amplify for them—health, happiness, love, peace, abundance, relationships, or harmony.
Place the Crystal Ball in your home, and whenever you see it, allow it to become a reminder of your intention.
Pause.
Smile.
Think of that person surrounded by beautiful light.
And send them your love.
We may not always be able to be physically close to the people we love, but we can continue to hold them in our hearts and in our loving intentions.
You can also choose different Crystal Balls for different family members or areas of life, creating a beautiful collection of intentions for the people who matter most to you.

Creating Greater Harmony in Your Family
How the energy you cultivate within yourself can ripple outward to the people you love
When we hear the word harmony, we often think of music.
Beautiful music is created when many different notes and vibrations come together. Each instrument has its own sound. Each musician plays a different part. Yet when they listen to one another and come together with the same intention, something beautiful is created.
A family can be much the same.
Every person brings their own personality, emotions, experiences, needs, and energy into the family. No two people are exactly alike—and they aren’t supposed to be.
Harmony doesn’t mean everyone plays the same note.
Harmony is learning how all those different notes can flow together.
