The Power of Chanting with Qi Flow

Master Chunyi Lin

Hello my dear friends ,

On January 7th through January 13th, my Tibetan Monk friends and I join together for a 7-Day Blessing. During this event, I will guide you through meditations as the Tibetan monks chant. This practice inspired me to share the power of chanting with my friends and family at Spring Forest Qigong. I felt that it would be something simple for you to integrate, and also something that can be relaxing, transformational, and fun!

Chanting is a practice that has been used for thousands of years. Chanting is the act of saying a phrase over and over again, sometimes in a singsong tone, while one is in a relaxed state. The act of repeating a word, statement, or sound is highly beneficial for one’s spiritual, emotional, mental, and physical wellbeing.

It can even change the way your mind works and create connections by rewiring your brain. Even professionals in the therapeutic realms use cognitive techniques that are similar to chanting, like daily affirmations or mantras to help individuals tap into negative self-beliefs, and replace them with positive self-beliefs.

Do you sometimes catch yourself in a negative self-thought or belief? Our minds are always focused on something, so learning to align your thinking with positive and healing thoughts can be life-changing! Meditation really is just the art of becoming objective about your thoughts and emotions. You can even try and imagine that your thoughts are like cars speeding by on a highway. Just let the traffic flow while seeing it from a removed and relaxed perspective. After a while the traffic will slow down and you will find yourself in a calm and focused space.

Using chanting gives you something to focus on while you’re meditating, which is similar to your thoughts coming to a halt. When the brain focuses on a chant it doesn’t have any room to allow unconscious thoughts or negative self-beliefs to infiltrate your body, mind, or soul.

Using the power of sound in meditation to bring about healing has been used since the beginning of time. Even the Big Bang was basically the first sound in the universe.

Sound is filled with vibrations and frequencies that can bring warmth and light to your body. There is even a story about a toddler who fell down into a well, and was stuck there for two and a half days. When they found her, she was singing to herself, because she intuitively knew that sound would soothe her fears and make her feel that she was going to be okay!

Music is another example of how vibrations can change your emotional makeup. You can listen to a favorite song, or a classical piece, and be deeply moved in such a way that your mood changes in an instant. This is the power of chanting as well, only chanting focuses on true healing, and functions as a gateway to temperance and harmony.

“Qi” means “life force” or the “universal life force” that flows through everything. “Gong” means “to work with.” Qigong is the art of being able to harness and align yourself with the life force energy. This energy has the power to clear out stagnant, stuck spaces, or states of being. By practicing the following chant, you will be directly linked to Qi energy. This is a great way to clear out an illness, or anything that is making you feel off.

When in deep meditation we can clearly experience the Qi flow in our bodies. First you need to get into a comfortable position and relax the body and the mind. Taking in nine deep inhales and letting out ten deep exhales is a great way to start. Next tell each section of your body to relax starting with your toes and working your way up to the top of your head.

When you feel very relaxed you can begin to chant. We use the six-word chant: Ong Ma Lee Bae Mae Hong.

“Ong” is associated with the heart of wisdom. At the very heart of wisdom is the wisdom of the universe. By linking inner wisdom with the wisdom of the universe, you are becoming one with divine wisdom and divine will. This sound can help with eyes, ears, nose, and head problems.

“Ma Lee” is associated with the constant flux of a person’s heart. Saying this phrase helps us to connect our hearts to the heart of the life force energy (Qi). This sound can ease throat, shoulders, elbow, heart or lung problems.

“Bae Mae” is associated with the purity of the heart, or the emptiness or nothingness in which the universe originated. The nothingness is another way of describing the simplicity and purity of Qi energy. This sound can help with spine, back, kidney, stomach, and intestinal issues.

“Hong” means enlightenment that flourishes from within the wisdom of the universe. It also refers to the awesome and holy power of the divine. This sound can help heal joint and leg problems. Remember to breathe while chanting and to pull the sound from your navel or diaphragm.

Using this meditation and this chant will sync you up to the Qi energy in the universe. It will strengthen your intuition and function as a guide for your everyday activities and decisions!

You will naturally flow with the life force energy, which will clear out any thought, person, place, or thing that is standing between you and healthy, enlightened living.

I have always believed that ancient chants have the ability to lift a person’s spirit towards their higher self. This chant will allow you to find peace and a feeling of freedom! It can bring spiritual transformation and help you tap into higher levels of consciousness. It is our wish at Spring Forest Qigong that you are able to apply this information to your life, and that you also have many blessings through the use of chanting with Qi energy!

Love & Blessings always,

Chunyi Lin
